Interrupting the School-to-Prison Pipeline

How can schools, government agencies, and community-based organizations work together to support youth at risk of falling into the school-to-prison pipeline? In Oakland, CA, the city formed Oakland Unite, a collaborative network that helps youth who have been expelled, incarcerated, or are at high risk of becoming involved in violence. This session will discuss Oakland Unite’s work, its success in preventing school dropout, and lessons learned for supporting high-risk youth in and out of school.
