Peter Kim is the Interim Director for the City of Oakland’s newly established Department of Violence Prevention, overseeing a citywide community engagement and research effort to determine the vision, goals, and structure of the new department. Previously, as Health and Human Services Manager for the City of Oakland Human Services Department, he managed its Oakland Unite division, and continues to oversee its operations. Prior to working for the City of Oakland, Peter worked for 17 years at the East Bay Asian Youth Center in East Oakland as the Managing Director of Programs, providing case management, systems advocacy, mentoring, resource brokerage, and media arts training to highly marginalized youth of color, including juvenile offenders, chronic truants, school push-outs, gang-impacted youth, and commercially sexually exploited youth. Peter is a doctoral candidate in comparative ethnic studies at the University of California, Berkeley.
