Story is Power: Bringing Civil Rights into Your Classroom

Dr. Dale Long survived the 16th Street Church bombing in 1963 and has made it his mission to change the world one story, one child at a time. The LBJ Library will moderate a conversation with Dr. Long and how his story- and stories from history- can empower teachers and instruction. Personal stories energize history, allowing students to directly connect to the past firsthand, especially when history is sitting right in front of them. Connection creates space to build community through shared experiences, and use those experiences to help shape our world. History can transcend textbooks.
