Principals & ass't principals share a massive responsibility in leading a school. Yet there exists no playbook on how to build this team so that the principal gets the support s/he needs and the ass't or vice principal gets the mentorship and opportunities to lead that s/he needs. In my time as a principal, I've worked with 11 ass'ts, most of whom have been promoted. This experience helped me develop an approach to maximizing the relationship and creating a win-win for admin teams.
