Fiza Mairaj
Fiza is originally from Pakistan, where she taught refugees resettled in urban slums in Karachi, the largest city of Pakistan. Her research aims to explore intersection of education and immigration policies, and shape educational integration of newly arrived refugee and asylee students in public schools is shaped by it. Her research also explores how non-state actors, such as nonprofit organizations, influence the educational outcomes of these marginalized student populations. Fiza has expertise in qualitative and mixed methods research design. She received her Ph.D. in educational policy from The University of Texas-Austin and is passionate about advancing social justice and educational equity and seeks to inform and improve the development of effective and inclusive policies.
