Segregation Can Be Found in Libraries, So We Mapped It!

Mar 5, 2025

12:30pm – 1:00pm CT

While embarking on a project to tell the history and stories of Black Librarians in America, our research on historical figures and pioneers in Black Librarianship uncovered a long list of segregated libraries in America. In this session, we’ll tell the story of how we used ArcGIS to create interactive web maps and story maps of these segregated libraries in America, whose stories were largely unknown to the general public. We'll also give an overview of the Are You A Librarian project, which aims to teach the history of Black Librarianship.
