Is Test-Optional an Equitable Fix in Admissions?

More than 80% of the Common App’s 900+ member colleges went test-optional in the wake of the pandemic—and many schools, particularly selective ones, are welcoming their most diverse freshman classes ever. But are test-optional policies the real reason behind a more inclusive admissions season? If they want to stand by their promises of equity and access, should colleges keep this policy intact for good? And what else should be done to build a more equitable admissions process?
