Hip-hop has always focused on telling the stories of communities left out of the dominant narrative. Meanwhile, academia has historically been an intentionally exclusive institution, ignoring those outside of its purview. This presentation will explore whether or not hip-hop and academia can work together to elevate our social discourse and bridge the divide between the university system and the communities it has played a role in historically marginalizing.
