Javaune Adams-Gaston, Ph.D., became the seventh president of Norfolk State University in 2019. She is a higher education professional with over 30 years of experience in academia. She is a scholar-practitioner who has engaged in impacting the success of thousands of collegiate scholars. Dr. Adams-Gaston maintains a strong commitment to building productive relationships that lay the foundation for collaboration, community-building, and progress. She is dedicated to making decisions that are guided by data, informed by vision, and responsive to the needs of the community. Prior to her appointment at NSU, Dr. Adams-Gaston was the first female Black Vice President for Student Life at The Ohio State University, where she was responsible for more than 40 operations that affected students' learning and development. She also previously served at the University of Maryland, College Park, in several administrative roles.
