Akiea is the Founder and Educator-in-Chief of Equitable Schools, Inc., a new nonprofit on a mission to close the opportunity gap by mobilizing teachers of color to address the racial and cultural inequities that plague our nation's schools. Akiea is also the creator of "Black Teachers Matter", an initiative created within her organization to address the importance of Black and Brown teachers in our nation's schools. Akiea is also an Instructional Coach at Harlem Village Academies in Harlem, NY. She holds an M.A. in Developmental Psychology from Columbia University's Teachers College and an M.S. in Childhood Education/Special Education 1-6 from Touro College of NY. She also holds two Bachelors degrees from UNC Chapel Hill in Child Development and Family Studies and Psychology respectively. Akiea is also part of the Management Team for R&B artist Sonic. In her spare time, you can find Akiea spending time with her dogs, writing or catching the latest indie film.
