Timothy Simmons

Music Teacher
Delaware Valley Friends School

I first began teaching in 1995 at a small independent school on the Navajo Reservation called Saint Michael Indian School. Moving back to Philadelphia, I spent several years teaching AP English at a small private school in the Philly suburbs, before moving to teach Music and English at an inner-city vocational school. It was there that I discovered the power of music to address diverse learning needs. Since starting at Delaware Valley Friends School, where I have taught for the past fourteen years, I have developed and teach our entire Music program, which now includes discreet curricular programs for 3rd to 5th grades, Middles School students, and High School students. I have also developed workshops to teach improvisation techniques to musicians and teachers that I often provide during the summer, as well as facilitate drum circles around Philly. Finally, through my graduate school research, I have developed my own curriculum for teaching Music to LD students.
