Dr. Nicki Washington is an associate professor of computer science at Winthrop University. Her professional experience includes Howard University, The Aerospace Corporation, and IBM. Recognized as one of Essence Magazine’s “Essence Tech Stars: 15 Black Women Disrupting the Tech Industry,” she has been a guest writer and speaker for USA Today College, The Root/VerySmartBrothas, Innovate Your Cool, Code.org, Mama Knows It All, Google, University of Virginia, University of Maryland-Baltimore County, UC-Irvine, North Carolina A&T, Association for Computing Machinery’s Council on Women in Computing, Marist College, blackComputeHER, National Coalition for Women in Technology, NASA, National Society of Black Engineers, and American Association for the Advancement of Science. She is a graduate of Johnson C. Smith University (B.S., ‘00) and North Carolina State University (M.S., Ph.D., ’02, ‘05), becoming the first Black woman to earn a Ph.D. in computer science from the university.
