How We Can Save a Generation from Sexual Violence
Twenty years ago Laurie Halse Anderson published SPEAK, about a teen rape victim's struggle to find her voice. It has become a standard text in high school and college curricula. This experience helped her to heal from her own rape and led her to write her memoir in verse, SHOUT.
Laurie will discuss rape culture and rape mythology and ways to tackle these problems: learning how to talk (comfortably!) about sex and sexuality, understanding how technology has changed the sexual health landscape, and shifting away from a model of shaming victims to developing consensual relationships and preventing criminal behavior.
