Recent research demonstrates school boards are critical to school improvement and can change the lives of the students they serve; boards control school leadership, taxes, and the budget. Despite the importance of local school boards, boards are often ignored by policy makers and lack the training and systems necessary to significantly impact student outcomes. Texas, New Mexico, and Nevada are developing promising school board frameworks that should be replicated nation wide.
