Debunking the Myth of Future Criminality for COIP

Some research on children of incarcerated parents (COIP) has been more harmful than helpful. One study found that COIP are seven times more likely to go to be imprisoned than their counterparts. Despite being inaccurate, numerous people continue to believe and repeat this statistic, to the detriment of COIP. This false belief negatively influences educators and undercuts the support available to this children. It is imperative to debunk false narratives about COIP in order to view their full potential.
