The development of new technology standards in education has facilitated a move towards real-time, decentralized connections between skills development and employment. These same technologies set the stage for the broad application of machine learning and recommendation engines in service of student success. This talk explores how standards such as Open Badges, Open Pathways, Blockcerts, and the Comprehensive Learner Record quantify learning, why that's a good thing, and what it makes possible.
