Teaching the Bardic Tradition as a Bard

Mar 5, 2019

1:00pm – 1:20pm CT

In this 20 minute talk, I hope to explain how to make ancient texts come alive in new ways. I sing, play the harp, and compose music to the words of such epics as the Odyssey, the Iliad, and Beowulf. These works arise from the oral tradition, and a bard, or harp-playing musical storyteller, originally transmitted these tales through song. I play these songs for my students, using the tools of a bard to teach the bardic tradition. I will do so during this presentation.
