The future of our democracy depends on our ability to teach digital citizenship. Many schools across the country claim to teach digital citizenship, but really only teach online safety (which is important but only a small element). True digital citizenship is a list of "dos" not a list of "don'ts." It's about using technology to improve the world around us, disagree respectfully in virtual spaces, engage with elected leaders, and distinguish true and false sources of information.
