39 states have passed 123 student privacy laws since 2013, and almost 200 new bills were introduced in 2017. Prominent federal representatives recently announced "it's time" to update FERPA. Unfortunately, some state laws and proposed federal bills could harm innovation and student success while doing little to protect student privacy. This session will examine state laws and student privacy trends through the perspective of a district, a state education agency, and an edtech company.
