City of Austin - Mayor

Summary

In late 2016, Austin Mayor Steve Adler announced the creation of the Mayor’s Task Force on Institutional Racism and Systemic Inequities aimed at addressing racial inequality in the community and address the systemic structures and institutions that have negatively impacted communities of color. The task force will focus on criminal justice, education, health, finance and housing, working to bring an action plan to city leadership this spring. This panel will bring together Mayor Adler and leadership from the task force to discuss Austin’s history of racial inequity, the importance of the task force's work and the implications for both Austin’s public schools as well as higher education.
