Summary

Engaging young people in creating and consuming high-quality, factual news is central to preparing them for participation in civic life. New research identifies the value of incorporating news into the school day -- and the formidable institutional obstacles that must be overcome. We'll talk with researchers about how both consuming and creating meaningful news and opinion content produces more empowered graduates and hear from a college student about her work in the field trying to improve students' rights to make their voices heard on issues of social and political concern -- and why it matters.
