The deficit of female and minority computer science engineers in the US is a mounting gender, ethnic and economic dilemma. There are currently over 500,000 unfilled computer science-related jobs in the US. And yet university computer science departments are full, predominantly with men and foreign students and there is little incentive for universities to increase the size of their departments or diversify their student body. Robin Hauser Reynolds, Director and Producer of the award winning film CODE: Debugging the Gender Gap, discusses the complicated issues impeding women and people of color from studying computer science and offers solutions to unclog the educational pipeline.
