STEM: Not Your Mother’s Digital Divide
Wednesday, March 6
3:00PM - 4:00PM
Austin Convention Center Room 15
Summary
Tablets and smartphones are helping equip students with the tools necessary to succeed in school. But is this enough to spark interest in a STEM career? For many students, this knowledge may be the new digital divide.
While STEM programs may start in the classroom, private-sector innovation often gives these programs a lift. Through a partnership between tech giant Neustar and edtech leader EverFi, students are exploring My Digital Life, an education platform that bundles immersive gaming simulation with real-life digital scenarios to inspire responsible digital citizenship and explore careers in STEM.
Participants will learn about the need for STEM education and how boardroom executives are influencing students in the classroom. Panelists will discuss why programs like My Digital Life require participation from both the public and private sectors and how technology can spark the imagination to build a pipeline of professionals ready for the job market that awaits.
