The Transformative Power of Hip Hop Pedagogy

As of June 2024, 30 states have pursued bills to ban equity & inclusion practices in public education. In the face of these efforts, hip hop education offers innovative resources allowing educators to meet the needs of students from all backgrounds. In this workshop, two veteran educators grounded in the hip hop tradition, from the Pacific Northwest to the deep South, share a mixtape of approaches to learning set to a soundtrack of beats & rhymes. In this era of legislation affecting meaningful work around inclusion & belonging, we pursue the radical promise of hip hop's pedagogical potential.
