Schools, Foster Care, & Families: Innovating for Equity

On the path to adulthood, a third of children—and over half of Black children—will be investigated by child protection. Educators make 300,000+ child abuse hotlines calls a year, and research shows these often mandated reports rarely improve families’ lives, especially where symptoms of poverty may look like neglect. Foster America’s mission is to transform the child welfare system, promoting more effective approaches to child, family, and community wellbeing. In this workshop, educators, nonprofits, and governments will come together to co-design alternatives to today’s inequitable system.
