South Africa is one of the most complex and challenging environments for entertainment and education, partially because of the weaponization of these industries under apartheid, partially because of the great economic disparities that plague the country to this day. This complex and nuanced environment is fertile ground for innovative techniques and approaches that, if successfully applied, can be used anywhere. This presentation focuses on how we as entertainers help build educational methods that overcome barriers that previously were thought insurmountable and outlines the long road ahead.
