Katherine Knott covers federal policy and elections for Inside Higher Ed with a focus on explaining how what happens in Washington D.C. affects colleges and universities and the students they serve and chronicling how lawmakers' increasing skepticism of higher education is translating to policy and legislation. Before Inside Higher Ed, she reported on K-12 education for local newspapers in Virginia and Kentucky, covering everything from the local spelling bee to battles over DEI to efforts to get kids back to school during the pandemic. Katherine holds a Bachelors of Journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
