Hector Valadez
Hector Valadez is a Guidance and Counseling department member for Mansfield ISD. Over the last 3 years, a newly founded group of educators was formed to address the ongoing need for social and emotional development among students in grades K-12. The Behavior Intervention Team (BIT) supports students, teachers, and administrators with new integration methods for social and emotional learning. These efforts meet the needs of students who consistently display negative behaviors in the classroom in new and creative approaches. While restorative practices and social and emotional learning are common in public education, this team is unique in working with students in general education settings. Professional Learning Community collaboration, peer-to-peer mentorships, direct support, and parent and community engagement encompass the avenues in which Behavior Intervention strategies are implemented. Now, in recognizing the importance of student behavior support, the BIT can help not only individual students, but schools and families find success.
