Dayna Peoples
Dayna Peoples is currently in her 14th year in the education field in Detroit, currently serving her district in SW Detroit as the K-5 Reading Specialist. She was born, raised and currently resides in the city of Detroit. Dayna is a proud product of the Detroit Public School system. After graduating from Cass Technical High School, she received her undergraduate in Elementary Education with a concentration in Mathematics and Master of Education in Reading, Language, and Literature from Wayne State University. She is a proud mother of one, who also attends Cass Tech, and is passionate about education and instilling core values in all young people she has the pleasure of encountering. She is an active member in her community and the nonprofit sector, holding a position on the board of the Minority Freedom Community Fund and a founding member of Aya House in Detroit. Dayna co-founded Detroit Kids Matter in 2020 to highlight the positivity and creativity that lies within Detroit’s greatest asset, the youth. By co-founding this organization, she hopes to be able to reach more young people and provide them with educational support and community resources to strengthen their knowledge and enrich their personal opportunities. Most recently, Dayna joined Teach for America Detroit as a Leads Fellow in 2022 to strengthen and sharpen her leadership skills to further expand her reach in the community that she serves.
