Chad Van Houten
As a science teacher at East Kentwood High School (Michigan's largest and most diverse high school) for the past 23 years, Chad has continually advocated for increasing STEAM opportunities for all students. He has worked with NMSI, the College Board, Teach for America and Bosch Corporation to create and fund new STEAM initiatives for students. He is currently teaching AP Biology and has grown student participation with Project/Placed Based Learning culminating in the annual STEAM Fair in May. He was awarded an innovation grant by Teach America to expand his work with Saturday and Summer STEAM Camps which integrate high school student teachers (from Educators Rising) with elementary student learners. These camps provide high quality science to all students while also inspiring young teachers to stay in the profession to address the current teacher shortage. In his spare time Chad coaches both the Boys and Girls Varsity Tennis Teams at East Kentwood High School, helps construct tech platforms for teachers, and runs Advanced Education Consultants LLC with his wife Angela (the real boss). Advanced Education Consultants LLC is an educational company that drives Equitable Access to AP Courses by connecting top instructors from across the country to your local teachers.
