Erika Shugart

Erika Shugart is the CEO of the National Science Teaching Association. In previous roles, she has served as Principal of Erika Shugart Consulting, which specialized in improving audience engagement; CEO of the American Society for Cell Biology; Director of Communications and Marketing Strategy at the American Society for Microbiology; and Deputy Director of the Marian Koshland Science Museum of the National Academy of Sciences. Before joining the museum, Erika directed the National Academy of Sciences’ Office on Public Understanding of Science, managing several projects including the article series Beyond Discovery. She holds a PhD in Biology from the University of Virginia and a BS in Biology from William & Mary.
