Sarah Friedmann
Sarah Friedmann is a New York-based writer, editor, and researcher with an extensive background in international and American civil and human rights work, particularly in the areas of racial justice and equality, women’s issues, and politics, policy, and governance.
Sarah currently serves as the Editorial Director (Narrative) and Editor in Chief for the civil rights legal organization, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund (LDF). She has extensive subject area expertise in many areas of civil rights work, including fair housing, political participation and voting rights, criminal justice, economic justice, and educational equity. In her current role, she oversees the organization’s overarching narrative strategy, working at the nexus of communications, public policy, and advocacy to develop cohesive and impactful messaging across LDF’s issue areas and advise on related communications products.
During her tenure, she conceptualized, launched, and now serves as Editor in Chief and content director of three new owned content spaces: LDF’s substack, LDF’s online original content hub, and LDF’s print magazine, V.O.I.R. (Voices, Opinions, Insights, Reflections). All three spaces feature bylined articles focused on shifting narratives, educating audiences, and uplifting voices and stories on key racial justice and equality issues.
Sarah holds a Master of Science (MS) in Foreign Service and a Master of Public Policy (MPP) from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. She also has a Bachelor of Arts (BA) with majors in International Studies, French, and Communication Studies from Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio.
