LaTanya McDade
Dr. LaTanya D. McDade was appointed as the Superintendent for Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) on July 1, 2021. She is the first woman and African American to hold this position. Dr. McDade launched the Vision 2025 Launching Thriving Futures strategic plan, focusing on improving learning and achievement, building a positive climate, increasing family engagement, and achieving organizational coherence.
Under her leadership, PWCS achieved an all-time high 94.3% on-time graduation rate for the 2023-24 school year and saw significant improvements in student academic achievement. Dr. McDade has expanded career and technical education programming and increased equitable access to advanced courses. She has also increased staff diversity and secured $13.52 million in philanthropic support. In 2024, Dr. McDade was unanimously nominated by her colleagues and received the Region IV Superintendent of the Year Award. Region IV includes all school divisions in Northern Virginia, spanning from Shenandoah and Frederick to Orange County.
Dr. McDade joined PWCS with 23 years of experience at Chicago Public Schools, where she served as Chief Education Officer. She holds a doctorate in educational leadership and supervision from Lewis University and is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for 1EdTech, Heart of America, and Women Leading Ed. Additionally, Dr. McDade serves on the American Heart Association’s Eastern States Superintendent Council, aimed at improving the health and well-being of students, families and educators.
