Andrea Golato

Dr. Andrea Golato became dean of The Graduate College at Texas State University in July of 2013. She holds the equivalent of a master's degree in translation studies with a specialization in economics from the Johannes-Gutenberg-University Mainz at Germersheim, Germany. She earned her Ph.D. in German applied linguistics from the University of Texas at Austin.Prior to joining Texas State University, she held faculty appointments at the University of Oregon, Utah State University, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she was also one of the associate deans of The Graduate College. Her research focuses on language use in different cultures. intercultural communication. She has held leadership roles in organizations promoting graduate education in Texas and at the regional and national level. She has created initiatives to both support international students in the U.S. and to provide international opportunities for U.S. students. She has published widely on language use in different cultures, intercultural communication, and language learning.
