Michael Gonzalez

Mike Gonzalez has over 30 years of education experience and currently serves as the Executive Director of the Rural Schools Innovation Zone (RSIZ). This work ensures all kids in rural South Texas have the opportunity to compete in today’s global economy. A lifelong educator, Mike began his career as a teacher and coach before serving as an athletic director for five years. His true calling for innovative leadership emerged during his 17-year tenure as a principal.
In his current role as Executive Director, Mike is dedicated to eliminating the opportunity gap, creating vast postsecondary pathways, and building a codified model for rural education that has been applied in communities across the country.
