Jana Duckett is currently a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Strategic Communication Department at Morgan State University in the School of Global Journalism & Communication. She teaches courses in various areas including social media strategy, communication theory and research, digital media, digital marketing, media literacy, and vlogging. Jana completed her Ph.D. in Communication and Masters in Public Administration at Regent University. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Media Studies at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. She began teaching at Morgan State University in 2019 and was awarded their Inaugural Innovation Teaching Grant in 2020, followed by a Hubspot Experiential Learning Education Innovation Grant in 2021. As a dedicated educator and practitioner, she serves as the faculty advisor for the university’s Public Relations Student Society of America chapter, fostering growth and development among future communication professionals. Her passion for pushing the boundaries of traditional teaching methodologies led her to receive the 2023 HistoryMakers Faculty Innovations in Pedagogy & Teaching Fellowship. She believes in the power of mentorship to inspire students and ignite their passion for research, curiosity, and inventiveness. With a keen interest in using data to address complex creative challenges, her research agenda spans diverse areas, including polymedia theory, design thinking, social network theory, cloud protest, and media effects.
