2023 Flight Crew
Million Girls Moonshot

I’m Camila Lopez Ortiz, and I’m a freshman in college. I study computer engineering at the
University of Texas at Dallas. I used to be in the National Science Honor Society, where we
would volunteer and help people around in the community. I have joined OSTEM and Girls Who
code and hope to be more involved with those groups as the semester goes on. I was selected
for the Million Girls Moonshot Flight Crew and was put on the Dean’s list for being in the top
10% of my class in my first semester of college.I believe that women should have the chance to
make a difference in society. I don’t think that gender, background or race should stop someone
from being involved in STEM because everyone is capable of being a part of STEM. I think
bringing diversity to STEM will bring new ideas and a lot of more creativity to the field and could
be very useful for the future. I used to tutor science for a while and help people around me
understand mathematics better. I really love coding. I hope to get better at it so I can hopefully
someday design a game or make a project of that size. Coding is really fun in the way that there
are so many possibilities and the solution to the problem is many. Coding allows for creativity
and problem-solving, which I love. I hope to get more public speaking skills and be able to
connect with others over similar interests and goals.
