Lauren Melso

Lauren Melso began her work as a volunteer ESL Tutor in 2018 at her local library. Seeing this as a way to combine her interests in languages, language learning and helping people, within the same year, she became a certified Berlitz ESL teacher and began to pursue a general certification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages with the Online Extension Program at the University of California - San Diego. She most recently was selected to teach the English Language Learners on Major League Soccer team NYCFC during the spring and summer of 2023. Her classes have ranged from working with individual students to classes of up to ten students. Lauren is also the founder of an ESL-focused digital media venture, HALO: English Language + American Culture and is in the early stages of launching. Lauren holds a Bachelor of Arts in Japanese from The Ohio State University, has also studied French and is currently increasing her Spanish skills. She loves all languages, has been studying since she was a toddler and enjoys analyzing and combining teaching methods she’s undergone, while applying different methods in her own classes.
