Michelle Farris
Michelle D. Farris is a dynamic educator with 27 years of expertise in strategic outcomes. Ms. Farris completed her formal education at Prairie View A&M University where she earned a BA in Communications and an MA in Counseling; she officially began her career as a high school English teacher in Bryan ISD. In her leadership experience, she has served as a high school counselor at Hastings High School in Alief ISD, a middle school counselor at Garcia Middle School in Fort Bend ISD, Assistant Principal at James Madison High School in HISD, Founding Dean of Academics at Yellowstone College Prep in Houston, and finally, Lead Counselor at Austin High School in Fort Bend ISD. She is a certified English teacher, School Counselor and Principal; she is also a former college professor of Developmental English. In all her roles in the field of education, Ms. Farris played a pivotal role in shaping school policies, implementing effective strategies, and fostering a collaborative culture among staff members.
Ms. Farris has a diverse educational career having worked with students from every race and economic background. She has a keen understanding of the importance of the relationship in the classroom environment. Ms. Farris is an instructional leader focusing on trauma informed teaching and the art of building relationships with students. She encourages teachers to take the time to invest in real non-contingent relationships with children that will impact them far beyond the classroom. She encourages teachers to create safe spaces for children where they feel valued and motivated to reach their full potential.
She retired from public education in 2022, however, she remains committed to education and mentorship. She is committed to the empowerment of all women, care for the elderly, and economic development in the underserved communities in Houston, Texas. She is the mother of two beautiful adult daughters and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Inc.
