Sonya Christian

Dr. Sonya Christian is the 11th Chancellor of the California Community Colleges. Previously, she served as the 6th Chancellor of Kern Community College District and has held various positions at Bakersfield College, including President, Division Chair and Dean of Science, Engineering, Allied Health, and Math. As President of Bakersfield College from 2013-2021, she established the California Renewable Energy Laboratory, promoting a sustainable energy future. As Chancellor, she focuses on preparing students for careers in emerging energy and climate technologies, emphasizing equity and community resilience. Dr. Christian's dedication to student success led to statewide and national leadership roles, advocating for the Guided Pathways model and Early College Program.
