Social Belonging in College: Where Science Meets Practice

Studies show that creating social belonging on college campuses improves student success. For over two decades, Stanford psychologist Greg Walton has developed a range of interventions to help students manage worries about belonging and create an environment where they thrive. How can educators foster social belonging in a vastly changing and polarized landscape? Walton and Assistant Vice President for Community and Culture for Stanford’s Office of External Relations Stephany Baker will discuss the science of social belonging and how it can inform institutional policies and practices.
