Books Unbanned

The surprising rise of censorship in this country as documented by PEN America and the American Library Association is clearly one of the mounting threats to our democracy. Books by people of color and about racial justice have been among the most often banned titles in the last three years. To elevate the dual threats to liberatory learning and our democracy, AAPF and our partners will present the “Books Unbanned”TM installation at SXSW EDU 2024. The purpose of the installation is to raise critical cultural literacy and to inspire advocacy to defend the freedom to learn, read, and teach our history in full. The Books UnbannedTM installation includes interactive data points placed within the design and a curated collection of banned books and other giveaways which are available for the public to take for free.
