Imani Wilson is Director of Media and Culture at TeachRock. Prior to joining the foundation, Imani taught music in the public schools of New York City and New Orleans, was a museum educator in London, led music departments in community art school and conservatory youth divisions, and taught courses in music and African American literature at Wesleyan University and Emmanuel College, respectively. Imani’s writing has been anthologized in collections published in the UK and the United States including, Bigger Than Bravery (2022).

Her work at TeachRock lives at the intersection of her passion for teaching music and her love of research and writing as seen in her favorite TeachRock resources, Lost Friends and Afrofuturism and Flying Africans. A lifelong church musician, she is a member of the Greater Allen Cathedral Mass Choir.
