Lorilei Chavez
Lorilei Chavez is a teacher and leader at Santo Domingo School, a Bernalillo Public School in New Mexico uniquely built on and governed by the Kewa Pueblo and serving 98% indigenous students. She is the Indigenous Education Initiative Coordinator within Bernalillo Public Schools working to create culturally relevant instruction, indigenized educational place-based spaces, better school-community relationships and has enrolled 4 Education Assistants into the teacher licensure pathway. Lori holds a BA in Native American Studies and a teacher licensure in secondary social studies. As one of few Indigenous Educators in our country, she passionately advocates for increasing the number of licensed indigenous educators and advancing indigenous student opportunities and outcomes throughout New Mexico.
