Gregory Washington

Washington took leadership in 2020 of Virginia’s largest, most diverse public university, a Carnegie Tier 1 research institution and a beacon of inclusivity and access for all students. He created new academic and entrepreneurial pathways for all Virginians with the “Mason Virginia Promise,” with funding for a bachelor’s degree or a business, in partnership with community colleges and a network of technology incubators, federal and state programs, and small business centers. Increasing enrollment, including over 3000 transfers annually, and establishing the Mason Talent Exchange to upskill Virginia’s workforce, Washington also broke ground on academic and innovation facilities on three campuses and restructured its research enterprise to increase research expenditures.
