Jessica Maddox
Jessica Maddox is an assistant professor in the Department of Journalism and Creative Media at the University of Alabama. Her research focuses on social media platforms, users, and creators, and the triangular relationship between the three. She is the author of The Internet is for Cats: How Animal Images Shape our Digital Lives (Rutgers University Press, 2022) and she has published over a dozen peer-reviewed journal articles. Her work has been recognized with top paper awards from the International Communication Association, Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, and The Journal of Popular Culture. She is a lifelong Southerner, and earned her Ph.D. in Mass Communication from the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication in 2018.
