Gheni Platenburg
Gheni Platenburg is an assistant professor of journalism at Auburn University. Her research agenda focuses on the intersection of Black identity and media, including the historic and contemporary Black Press; pop culture; and Black journalists’ decision-making and identity negotiation. Platenburg earned a doctorate in media and public affairs from Louisiana State University. She is the co-author of Lizzo’s Black, Female and Fat Resistance with additional published work in the Journal of Black Studies and books, Verzuz and Club Quarantine: Sustaining Black Music and Black Culture During COVID19, and Black Identities and Media. Her work has been recognized with top paper awards from the National Communication Association and the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.
