Matt Johnson

Dr. Matt Johnson serves as the Chief Academic Officer of University Charter School, a public charter school serving 650 students in PK-12. Matt is also an Assistant Professor of Education at The University of West Alabama where he works closely with pre-service teachers and aspiring school leaders through on-campus and online programs. This dual role is an intentional effort to rethink education to revitalize an impoverished, underserved, and academically challenged area of West Alabama. Prior to this work, Matt served as a school principal in elementary, middle, and high school settings across rural, Title I districts in the Southeast, and Matt has worked closely with both the Georgia and Alabama Departments of Education related to curriculum and instruction.
