Becky Calzada
Becky Calzada is the District Library Coordinator in LeanderISD, a suburban school district northwest of Austin, Texas. She is a co-founding member of Texas #FReadom Fighters, a grass-roots led group of librarians launched back in October of 2021 in support of intellectual freedom and to highlight the positive work of school librarians. Becky is the recipient of the ALA’s Robert B. Downs Intellectual Freedom Award, the American Association of School Librarians’ Intellectual Freedom Award, and the Texas Library Association’s Libraries Change Communities Award. Becky is a member of the ALA Policy Corp Proactive Advocacy on Book Banning cadre, was a member of the ALA Intellectual Freedom committee, on the Legislative Committee for the Texas Library Association, and was Past Chair for the Texas Association of School Librarians. She is the 24/25 AASL President and was honored by People Magazine in their 2023 Women Changing the World portfolio. Becky is the co-author of Prepared Libraries, Empowered Teams: A Workbook for Navigating Intellectual Freedom Challenges Together which will be published by ALA Editions in June 2024.
