Jackie Smilack is a literacy curriculum specialist for Denver Public Schools, where she oversees curriculum development, implementation, and professional learning for middle school and high school English teachers. She is also a PhD student at the University of Colorado Boulder School of Education, where she is interested in the impact of initiatives that prioritize teacher, student, and community voices in the co-design and implementation of culturally and historically responsive literacy curricula. She currently serves as a graduate research assistant of the NSF-funded Imagine AI project, which supports adolescents in critically thinking about ethical issues within AI. Jackie is passionate about literacy, students’ access to opportunities for a critical examination of literature and media, and supporting educators in their journey to provide equitable literacy instruction.
